A New Beginning for Zach
On a fall morning in 2007, police were called to an Irondequoit home where three adults had been found stabbed to death. A ten year-old boy, Zach, was found alive, having witnessed the death of his mother and a family friend at the hands of his step-father who then took his own life. SPCC trauma therapist, Andrea, was called upon to provide therapy for Zach as he processed the horrific events that had transpired that morning.
For the next year, with support from SPCC and AACM, Zach adjusted to this new life without his mother. Prior to this tragedy, Zach had spent brief periods of time in a foster home where he was now welcomed back once again. Over time, the bond between Zach and his foster parents strengthened while Zach continued to work through the grief and traumatic memories resulting from years of ongoing domestic violence in his home.
